POSTED MAY 14, 2025

WOW! What a week-end! The 2nd week-end of May has always been a tough one at Mottville! WE ran on Mother’s Day in 1992 with the Formula Indys and results were so bad that we never scheduled another show on Mother’s Day until 2000! Last year we gave each mother a hot dog and coke and it must be working as Sunday we had the best Sunday of the season so far and I noticed a high female content in the stands!

We doubled our car count from one year ago and for the 3rd straight week the car counts on Saturday and Sunday were identical! Shows you that the Sundays are getting stronger and stronger!

How about those Mottville Stocks? David Schaefer scored his first feature win of the season Saturday night and Sunday night Robert Teadt, Jr. got his first win of the season and that made 7 different winners in the last 7 nights in the MS feature! I can never remember that happening before!

How about Mike Jones? The rookie driver switched from Thunder Cars to Mini-Thunder Cars and won in his first MTC feature Saturday night! He appears to be far more comfortable in a MTC!

In the TC division Chris Arnett is getting better each week-end! A 3rd place finish Saturday and then a career high 2nd place Sunday! Terry Kline commented on how improved Chris was!

Speaking of Kline he told me his late model is now done and therefore we will probably not see him as a regular at least at Mottville! That puts Melissa Worthington and Arnett in a good position to go for the season points championship!

Merle Yoder showed how dedicated he is to getting a points championship when on Sunday his car was not running right and he took it home and came back in time for the feature in his back-up car and earned 30 valuable points!

Wesley Schaefer showed the value of those Good Year tires when he purchased a new one and finished 2nd in the feature Sunday!

Bill Crapo purchased 3 new Good Years first thing Sunday and went on to win the Bomber feature!

We had a big field of karts Saturday night and they put on a tremendous show again! Unfortunately with two laps to go Greg Brown hit the wall near the exit! He has some bruised muscles but is ok and his sister showed how tough she is when, not missing a beat, she went on to win the feature!

Terry Humphries was back and he told me he will be running on Saturday and Sunday now as he wants that Bomber points championship! Love that dedication! Plus after a long absence Warren Sprague was back and he had been working both Saturday and Sunday nights! Still has to work Saturday nights but he is going to take some vacation time soon on Saturday nights!  Warren said his son, Robert, should be out in a bomber soon!

So we had 4 Bombers and 4 SS Sunday and ran them in separate divisions. I, for one, have not given up on the Bombers yet! We have Crapo and Dowling whom we can count on most nights and if we get Humphries we only need one more! Two Spragues would really help!

Street Stocks are coming along also! Saturday night Jeff Brunt brought his beautiful number one to the track and Sunday we had Shane Sanders and Grady Woods for the first time this season! Have not seen Dick Groves or the Reaumes for about two weeks now!

We did pay way better than advertised both nights! For the Ms both nights we paid $75-60-50-40-35-30! Sunday the SS paid 75-60-50-35. Bombers 75-50-40-25(ran 2 laps).

Randy Morley showed beneath that tough exterior and loud voice he really is a gentleman! Ryan Prough spun coming out of turn 4 on the final lap of the SS feature when he was lapping a car. We called Morley the winner but he declined, saying he had hit Prough! You do not see that happen very often! Great sportsmanship on the part of Randy!

Paul Scott purchased a set of Good Years Saturday and reported his SS will be here this Saturday!

Once again we had many inquiries about TC and MTC and I am expecting the car count to explode in these two divisions any week now!

David Fugate returned to Mottville for the first time since wining the February Follies and he must be planning on bringing the number 89 MS back sometime as he purchased two new Good Years!

We did reach an agreement with the Vintage Modifieds. Actually it was same agreement we had before! Anyway the car count was disappointing again-only 8-but Larry Mollohan and Harold Boorsma waged a tremendous duel for the feature win with Mollohan having a heck of a time getting by for the win!

The VM return on Memorial Day Sunday, part of a triple header week-end! That is just one week from this week-end and seems unreal that is almost here already! Some of us old timers remember when Mottville and Plymouth used to open on Memorial Day week-end and close Labor Day week-end! Now we will have 17 nights in before Memorial Day week-end!

Need to say something about the calls Tom Pearson and I make during the races! First of all I have never cared for the “contact rule” that some tracks have where all cars involved go to the tail on the restart! I mean if I have a buddy who will spin out the fastest car then I take the lead what kind of fairness is that?

So we attempt to make a call as to who caused the spin-out that stopped the race. I would be the first to admit that we make some mistakes over the course of a season. But when both Tom and myself make an identical call we are very very rarely wrong! Had a SS driver most upset at us about a call both Tom and I made. I am certainly not saying that both Tom and I could never both be wrong but is rare! Over the course of the season I have found that the calls balance out! You win some and you lose some and if you just keep racing everything will balance out in the end!

David T. Schaefer and Tom Pearson are adding two lights facing the track in turn one and one facing the pit drive! This will be yet another improvement to our lighting! The pit area is really well lighted now after installation of the tower!

For you quarter pound hot dog fans we have them back again starting this Saturday! My concession help forgot to tell me we were out! I wondered how we could not be and discovered we were! If you like hot dogs than the quarter pounder is the way to go!

Finally, I am giving serious consideration to driving through a wall of fire! Vic Krontz has offered to build the wall and if I find a TC to drive through it I just may do it if there is enough interest! Hey there are no limits to what I will do for the Mottville Speedway!

Early weather forecast for both Saturday and Sunday is terrific, about 70 and sunny both days! Hope to see you at Mottville this week-end!
Remember
THERE IS NO PLACE QUITE LIKE IT!
We like it that way!
