POSTED June 03, 2025
22
nights of racing are now in at the Mottville Speedway for the 2001 season as we
completed the first week-end of June with two exciting nights of racing!
Saturday
night once again we faced rain! Not as heavy or as long as a week ago but rain
none the less! A misty drizzly rain all afternoon and into the evening! The
phone rang off the hook at the track and we assured all callers we were indeed
running! I think our reputation for not canceling finally paid off as other
tracks around all closed and we picked up cars and fans! Some people came all
the way from Ft Wayne and told us we were the 4th track they went to
before finding one that was racing!
Unlike
a week ago the track this time was decent at least! Then during intermission the
misty rain started again and I admit to being concerned about the karts for
their feature but they took it rather easy and were fine! I breathed a sigh of
relief when the kart feature was over!
WE
registered 7 new cars Saturday night and had 3 first time feature winners!
Despite of or maybe because of the weather we ended up with 31 stock cars and 7
karts! Going to the track I figured we would be most lucky to get 16 cars and 3
karts! Street Stocks were really a shock with 9! Bombers had 8! Once again we
paid the SS more than we advertised-$125-85-60-50-45-40-35! Ron Hughson, Jr.
started last and won first feature on his first time out to Mottville this
season! He was newly married over the
off season and his new bride seems like a great race fan! I know she has
nice hand writing as she filled out Ron’s registration form!
We
had 2 dirt track cars from Butler-Rod Brenneman and Max George and they drove
like Mottville was a dirt track which was exciting to watch!
Paul
Scott broke at South Bend Friday night before running a single lap under green
but finally got his car running well Saturday night and again on Sunday!
When
Jamie VanDusen won the MTC feature I was certain someone else was driving the
car! The reason being she had hot lapped the car on Thursday at Mottville and
had trouble shifting gears and then had the same trouble again in the heat on
Saturday night! But when Rita Courtney checked it was indeed Jamie! You just
never know, especially in MTC and TC!
Eric
Goff looked very good in wining the MS feature! Would love to see him against
Robert Teadt, Jr., Josh Salter and Rod Roberts at Mottville!
Sunday
was cool but dry! Again a good car count with 32 stock cars and 4 karts! Nice!
About an average crowd and both the car count and crowd were most pleasant
surprises because the first two week-ends of June have historically been
horrible for us! Registered 3 more cars! Also David Fugate’s wife came and
purchased two more Good Years for David’s number 89 MS and told us he plans on
being at Mottville next week-end!
The
absolute worse part of the day came in the MS heat when David Schaefer, our
webmaster, hit the turn one wall extremely hard! He totaled his car and managed
to somehow walk away from the accident for which we are all most grateful! Now
he will be working on getting a new car together asap!
The
MS feature was really a good one! Teadt and Salter started on the tail and took
the lead and then went to the tail after spinning out together and came back to
take the lead again and battle all over! The two cars and drivers are fairly
evenly matched! Afterwards there were a few words exchanged between the drivers and
their supporters, and Paul Scott again said something he says frequently and
which more people would be wise to remember “These people take this stuff far
too seriously!” Well put Paul!
We
had 10 MS but only 7 ran! Bob Aumack has a miss in his car and can’t seem to
cure it!
We
had 7 SS and they put on a great show and we paid them 100-75-60-50-40-30-25,
far more than we advertise! Really any 5 of the 7 cars could have won the
feature and it would not have been considered an upset!
The
TC and MTC were really wild! Spin outs and crashes and lead changes over and
over! In the end Ken Odom won his first ever feature in TC and Nathan Aumack in
MTC! Nathan loves to run the wrong way around the track! Had some fans and
drivers unhappy with me for not running the TC the wrong way because they wanted
Jamie Kline to win! But Jamie won twice last week so she is no longer an
“underdog” needing any help! When it comes to TC and MTC they are mostly for
fun and we will openly state that we try to help underdogs win when the
opportunity presents itself! MTC got up to 5 cars Sunday and with 5 cars they
put on their best show of the season! Imagine what it will be with 10!
David
Schafer has been helping me work on a Wednesday night special show and I can now
tell you that it is certain to go! We have two sponsors lined up and one has
committed and I am waiting on a commitment from the second , hopefully this
week! As soon as I get it we will draw up a flyer and have it at the track, and
on this web site! But it will be MS for 50 laps and some outstanding money! Also
TC and MTC and an outside chance of SS! Tentative date is July 11 so hold it!
Holle’s Salvage has committed to sponsoring and Connor’s Towing and Salvage
will let me know this week! For a show as big as this one will be, there was no
way to pull it off without sponsors and we really appreciate these two! Stayed
tuned for much more next week!
This
week-end we have Vintage Modifieds Saturday and Sunday is a trophy night,
plaques to all heat and dash winners and top 5 in “A” features! Trophy
nights usually produce a nice car count! But as I have said before I will say
again-rain or snow or shine you can count on us running at Mottville!
There truly is no
place quite like it!!
And we love it that way!
