We had a much better week-end than we ever expected this past week-end! With the final day of the Elkhart County Fair and a demolition derby on Saturday night plus an area track running a high paying special for street stock type cars Saturday looked bleak enough and then Mother Nature added dark skies and even a light mist during our dash and heat events! But we had an average crowd Saturday and 22 stock cars and 12 karts and some very good racing! Sunday we had to go against another area track with a high paying special plus hot and humid and a possibility of thunder showers but we had an average crowd for Sunday and 27 stock cars and 7 karts despite getting no cars from other track where we usually get 5-8 on Sunday! Not bad at all!
It was a great week-end for Jeff Brunt! He looks like he will be our 2001 SS Rookie of the Year and
Saturday night he won his 3rd feature of the season and came back Sunday in the 35
lapper and finished a strong 2nd! It would appear he finally has his heating problem solved!
Terry Kline took home a 2nd and 3rd and is now only 119 points out of 2nd in the point standings for SS! This Sunday night is bonus points plus
triple points so Terry should move into 2nd rather easily! Randy Morley looked like the
Randy of old Sunday as he took an early lead in the feature and went on his 19th win of the season! We had 10 SS including first timers
Rick Segvich, Donald Hundley and Jr. Whitby. We ran a B feature and Matt Buzzard won it fairly easily! Paul Scott has been
in the car but Matt went back in it for the week-end and did well!
In the MS as expected Eric Goff won the feature Saturday but he almost did not! His car was throwing gas out the fuel tank cap big time but a quick
trip to the pits and adjusting the cap took care of that! Sunday the feature looked wide open but Jason Schaefer made some tire adjustments and
looked real good in winning his 3rd feature of the season! David Schaefer may be closer to solving his problems with his new car as he finished 2nd
to go with a 3rd place finish on Saturday. Jean Behlke was back and he car was looking terrible( I have to say the car looked terrible because Jean
never does!) but on Sunday she put on two new Good Years and won the dash and was 2nd in the heat. She seemed to have trouble getting started in the
feature Sunday but came on strong the 2nd half of the 20 lapper and finished 4th and was
challenging for 3rd! Points leader Merle Yoder was steady, 4th Saturday and 3rd Sunday and had a dash win
Saturday. Wesley Schaefer had a heat win on Sunday which he needed as this has been a rather tough season
for him so far!
Jamie Kline could not get her TC 27 to start Saturday night for anything so she borrowed Morley's number 26 TC and finished 3rd. Sunday she brought the
number 14 TC and was 3rd again! Eric Root took over the TC points lead and won his 3rd feature of the season Sunday as he just nipped Morley! Doug
Gage was back after a long absence Saturday night and won the feature and told us at pay-off he would see us Sunday but never did! Kenny Odom was
back and looked great in winning a heat but had troubles big time in the feature! Former points leader
Melissa Worthington was at Mottville Sunday but no car!
The MTC class is really getting close! Seems the feature has been close every night for weeks!
Fred Garrett won the feature both nights but had to really work for the wins! Nathan Aumack was 2nd both nights and is now
within 462 points of leader Paul Zimmerman who currently, at least, has no car! If Paul does not have a car again this week-end this division could
really get close for the points race! Justin Mosher has really improved and won his first heat ever
Saturday night and Mike Aumack is getting his new car tuned in and won his first dash ever
Saturday! Good to see both of these rookies do well! Bad news is George Davis blew the engine on the 38
MTC!
The karts have really been putting on show this season! Wow and wow! Saturday night Greg Brown won a very exciting 15 lapper over much improved
Justin Stump! Andrew Behlke was a strong contender at 3rd! Behlke came back for his 9th feature win on Sunday!
Eric McGlothlen finished 4th Saturday and he rapidly improving! His is the grandson of former
Mottville (then
SWMS) owner Ralph McGlothen. Plus Eric's father was a heck of a driver, Also he has the genes for racing for certain! When you put 7-10 karts on the
track it really makes for a great show and these young drivers really drive hard!
This sounds unbelievable but it is true! We had a man have his street car inspected to see if it could be a TC and he claims he is bringing it next week! 1990 Lincoln Mark V!! In great condition! He even hot lapped it once and it looks fast! Stay tuned for more here!
Plus I had a guy telling me his is bringing his SS to Mottville next week so I expect car count to pick up each week until
September and then really explode! September has always been our strongest month of the season at
Mottville and this year I expect it and October to be really, really good! WE have a strong August schedule with the Vintage
Modifieds on the 4th and 18th and Trophy Nights on 5th and 26th. If someone out there is
interested in getting involved in a race track we do need someone to drive the safety truck and help with mowing and
weed killing and like that. Low pay but plenty of benefits!
Missed Bill and Susan Crapo this week and his SS 55 but hope to see them back next week! I am told Barry Harrison is working on a new MS!
We had to use oil dry Sunday in the middle of turns one and two when Dale Kendall hit the wall and had his fuel cell leak. Shelly Lauderdale not only did a fine job with Dale but directed clean-up efforts very well! Also thanks to all the many volunteers who helped sweep and load the car plus those who drove the safety truck during the week-end!
THAT IS THE MOTTVILLE SPEEDWAY SPIRIT! EVERYONE PITCHES IN TO HELP! SEE MORE OF IT THIS WEEK-END!
