POSTED November 05, 2001

Mother Nature was most kind to us at the Mottville Speedway this past week-end with sunny skies and around 60 during the day and 50’s and 40’s at night! This nice weather resulted in very good car counts for the first week-end in November and some great racing!

Saturday night Paul Scott won his first street stock feature of the season, taking the lead on lap 14 from Randy Morley and then managing to hold off Morley for the win in the 25 lapper!  Donald Hunley was a consistent 3rd and Mike Long, at Mottville for only the 2nd time this season, came home 4th and won a heat despite having to use one hand to keep the car in gear while driving with the other hand! Rookie Brian Smith was 5th and we had 13 ss!

Sunday night we had 7 SS and Josh Salter, driving the Terry Kline 27 car, won his first feature of the season over Scott and Hunley. Even with only 7 cars the feature paid $100 to win!

Saturday night Kline won his first Mottville Stock feature of the season as points leader Merle Yoder got caught in traffic and came on late but was just inches short at the finish in the 15 lapper! Larry Birk was 3rd but missed Sunday as he went to the hospital with an infected toe. He was released Sunday after treatment and should be fine by this week-end! Yoder did win the heat and dash. Sunday Merle came back to win his 12th feature of the season over Kline and John Yoder.

Saturday night Rookie Cindy Grinnell won her first ever feature as he took the Thunder Car 15 lapper over her father, Fred Collins! Cindy “borrowed” Fred’s tires and it gave her the margin she needed for the victory! Richard Allbee was 3rd after winning the heat. Grinnell also took the dash.

Fred Garrett added two more feature wins in the Mini Thunder Cars for 15 to date! Saturday night Darren Slone came home a season high 2nd with Mike Aumack 3rd. Sunday we had 8 MTC and Travis Juillerat was 2nd with Mike Aumack again 3rd and Ray Butler 4th.

It was a frustrating week-end for season points leader Nathan Aumack as he was in his back-up car and it was barely running! He is looking for a new car!

9 karts were on hand Saturday night and it was certainly Nick Landon’s night as he won his 7th feature of the season and also took the heat. Andrew Behlke was 2nd and Justin Stump 3rd. Behlke won the dash. During hot lapping Landon tested his new sprint car!

Sunday season points leader Behlke came back to win his 15th feature of the season over his father, Tod Behlke.

Speaking of the Behlke’s , Jean totaled her MS 80 during the IMCC last week and is done for this season! Major bummer!

Sunday night George Roulette, the last announcer ever at the Raceway park near Chicago, was on hand and donated $10 to the winner of each of the 4 stock car heats! Thanks George!

Morley continued to have major problems with the 26 SS but easily kept his points lead and should be back this week-end again!

Donny Klotz won the TC heat Sunday night but was over 200 pounds underweight and was 2nd in the feature but this time was over 50 pounds under! Saturday night Scott had only 2 pounds to spare!

Elsewhere on this web site you can find complete information on our 11th annual  Awards Banquet which will be Saturday, February 11, 2026 at the Dal-Mar Catering  Hall in Nappanee! Great food and great fellowship as always! Get your tickets early as they are only $20 if purchased by Jan 1!

We are currently fine tuning things for 2002 as we wrap-up 2001! Very few changes but we will be changing the SS name to Pro-Stock but the rules will remain basically the same! However, pay-offs will be increased! We are going to attempt to build on a good 2001 season for this class and try to increase car count to about 10-12 per night and hopefully also increase the crowds some each night as a result!

Although I have not yet signed a contract with Good Year for 2002-2004 it does look more and more like we will stay with them! Their tires seems to wear the best and we have a 3 year  price guarantee which means tires would be same price for the next 3 years as they were this season! In addition they supply a track champion jacket to the SS and MS season points winners.

Yoder Oil Co, our racing fuel supplier, is sponsoring the season championships on Sunday, November 18 and our final race will be Saturday, November 24 with a special start time of 4 pm!

We have now raced 70 nights during 2001 without a rain-out and I am most serious about going the entire season without one! 70 down and 5 to go! I think we have now gone about 120 nights over 2 seasons without a rain-out! So come rain, snow or cold you can count on us racing at Mottville and I hope to see you there!

Oh yes, final point, this coming Sunday is Veteran’s Day and we want to honor our veterans by giving each of them a free hot dog and soft drink! So tell Lillie Pearson at the ticket-pit pass booth if you are a veteran and she will give you a coupon for a free hot dot and soft drink and to all veterans who have served this great country of ours ,we say many thanks!
