This is being written on January 1, 2026 ! Happy New Year to all!
Went to the speedway and have to admit we have snow there and lots of it! But the GOOD NEWS is the weather forecast from right here at our web site, courtesy of the weather channel. For Sturgis, the forecast is Thursday night of 40, Friday high of 45 and rain. Just exactly what we need for some serious melting! Saturday forecast is high of 39 and a low of 22 and scattered snow showers, which is fine!
So now for the big question, are we going to run Mottville Maddness V on January 6, 2001? The answer is a qualified yes! Yes if we can get the snow plowed from US 12 to the pits and clear an area in the pits for race cars and tow vehicles and then get the track cleared. Talked to Paul Scott today and he has to get his truck with the blade on it fixed but if he gets it fixed by mid week he will be able to clear the snow before Friday so that mother nature can then help us with the rest with some serious melting with the rain and warmer temps!
Now if Paul were unable to get the snow plowed then we would shoot for the alternate date of Saturday January 13, 2001 for Mottville Maddness V. Should we be force to do this check our web site as I would notify David T. Schaefer, web master, at once and he would put it on here!
Talked to pit steward Tom Pierson this afternoon also, and he said many of the so called "local" drivers have told him their cars are under 3 foot of snow! Appears first snow fall back in early December caught them unaware and they did not get their cars either covered or inside! But I have had plenty of emails from drivers from other tracks asking if we are going to run and saying if we are, they will be there with their cars!
So, in conclusion, (for now at least) as regards to Mottville Maddness V, if we can get the snow removed we race, otherwise January 13, 2001!!
Personally I am starting to have withdrawal symptoms from racing already. It is 6 weeks from our last regular season race to January 6 racing and then another 5 weeks from racing to our banquet! Then only 3 weeks until hot laps and one more week after hot laps for racing again! Another way to look at it is that we have basically a 3 month off season with a banquet and Mottville Maddness in between and now we have one third of the off season over! The good news is that February is a short month and we have the banquet so once we can get through January we should have it made!
I wanted to go to the midget races at the Ft. Wayne Coliseum Annex Friday night but it snowed fairly hard and we have no good roads to Ft. Wayne from up here so we decided against it! Next chance is Indy for the midgets on January 20, 2001!
One final reminder that the banquet tickets go to $25 from $20 after this Saturday, January 6, 2026 so if you want to get a ticket for $20 mail us your money this week or see me at the track Saturday!
Also any number not paid for for 2001 is now open in all classes! To reserve a number for 2001 send in your registration form now with the correct registration fee for your class.
Hope to see you on January 6, 2001 and remember gates open at 1 P.M. and racing starts at 2 P.M. ! Stay warm and dry!!
