POSTED FEBRUARY 4, 2001
We will open for practice Thursday March 1, 2025 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. and every Thursday thereafter, weather permitting, of course, through November 15, 2001. During March and November we will open 5-8 P.M. and then from April through October from 6-9 P.M.
Good Year Tires are available at $90 each and we will have them at the track each night starting March 3. They can be brought to a Thursday practice if you call in advance and you can get them anytime at our Nappanee office.
The season schedule will be released at the Awards Banquet this Saturday night and then mailed to everyone on our mailing list who was not at the banquet on Monday, February 12. It should be on our web site Monday February 12 also. As the season goes on I am sure we will have some changes but I doubt the dates will change any.
Speaking of our Awards Banquet the 10th annual banquet will be the biggest and best ever! 63 reservations at this point in time! Dixie Worthington, Thunder Car Rookie of the Year and 2nd in points, and her husband, Richard, just made the deadline! Her plaques will be sponsored by WSW Racing. Melissa Worthington, Bomber season Points Champion, also made the deadline! We are awarding 22 Plaques this time and the sponsors are listed on the "Awards Plaque Sponsor Page", from the main page of our web site. Remember these sponsors as they really do help make for a great Banquet. Bomber Rookie of the Year Terry Humphries has the biggest crowd coming with 13 people! The Schaefer brothers, David and Wesley, have a combined 13 also! Oh yes, other last minute reservations were Tom Dowling, 3rd in Thunder Car Points and the winner of our first Thunder Car feature ever and Tim Baldwin, 11th in Thunder Car points.
We have a bunch of prizes for the 50-50 drawing for the Banquet! Our old style Mottville Speedway Hats and T-shirts plus the Dick Trickle cars from Clipp Auto Supply, a few 2000 National Speedway Directories and some other goodies! Plus all 2000 photos will be on sale for the one and only time they are ever on sale! So those coming to the Banquet can snap up some real bargains! Registration forms will be at the Banquet for those who have not registered yet but want to. And I have 2 very special award presentations to make which will remain secret until Saturday night!
Meanwhile I find myself getting ready for the February Follies race and then the opening night on March 3rd! It's amazing everything you have to do to get ready for a season! Order ice and get supplies for the concession stand, make posters for prices, get the computer ready for results and points standings, order racing fuel, order racing tires, get all the forms we use each night, etc, etc, etc! But the closer we get to opening night the more exciting it gets!
Bob Aumack sent me an email this week stating that he had purchased a Ford Ranger pickup and plans on running at Mottville this season! He said he might not make the first couple of nights but that he will be looking for a track championship! Bob raced quite a bit with us in 1997 - 1999 and only a couple of times in 2000 but we are thrilled to have him back! So that makes more competition for the Schaefer Brothers along with Jean Behlke, 1999 Mottville Stock Champion who is also coming back! Should be an exciting season!
One thing I have certainly found over the years is that it is very, very difficult to ever predict who will be the season Points Champion in a division at Mottville! When you race 70 nights per year a lot of things can happen and usually do! First of all it takes an almost total dedication to the task at hand! Second you can not allow yourself to get distracted by things like the calls of track officials that might not go your way! That is a bigger problem for some drivers than you might think! If you are a reasonably clean driver, over the long course of the season you will find that the calls will even out for and against you or perhaps even more for you, so when one goes against you, simply go on and forget it! Only very rarely have we had a season Points Champion do it two years in a row! So we'll see what develops in 2001! Right now the Mottville Stocks appear to have the most serious contenders for a season Points Champ!
Anyway the Awards Banquet is only mere days away, then 2 weeks and one day later February Follies and six days later the regular season begins! All indications are that 2001 will be our best season ever! Hope to see you often!
Good Luck!!!!
