POSTED April 6, 2025
April racing at the Mottville Speedway began with a chilly Saturday night but the racing was fast and several new cars made for our car count of the season despite the weather!
Pro Stock points leader Paul Scott padded his lead by winning his 3rd feature of the season and the dash! Scott picked up an easy $100 for the win in the 20 lapper! Jeff Brunt brought his number one car out for the first time in 2002 was second and Matt Buzzard brought the 9 car out for the first time and was 3rd. Warren Sprague was back after a two week absence and finished 4th.
Rod Roberts had a borrowed car for the first time and took the lead halfway through the 30 lap Mottville Stock feature and went on to his 2nd win of the season! Jason Schaefer was a close 2nd and Merle Yoder 3rd! Wesley Schaefer had the 54 car running for the first time this season and was 4th! Jason won the heat over Roberts while Roberts took the dash over Larry Birk. Birk had all sorts of mechanical woes in the feature and was 5th. The win for Roberts was worth $100!
Barry Harrison registered the number 28 MS and said he would have it out no later than the April 21 Raymond Beers Memorial race!
Randy Burns and the good looking 124 Thunder Car managed to win the 25 lap TC feature over Bill Crapo, Cindy Grinnell, Richard Allbee, Eric Root, Harold Blowers and Bryan Whitaker. Grinnell and Blowers were racing at Mottville for the first time this season. Cindy was last before the cars were turned around to run the wrong way around the track at the halfway point and she fared much better going the wrong way! Allbee won the dash for the 2nd night in a row and Whitaker held off Burns for the heat win! We had 7 TC and it paid $60 to win the feature!
Defending season points champion Fred Garrett made it 5 feature wins in 5 nights in the Mini Thunder Car Division but Rookie Brian Jenkins gave him all he could handle before settling for 2nd! Jennifer Jenkins was 3rd and newcomer Joe Fitzpatrick 4th. After the races Brian Jenkins told me he was giving his present 68 MTC to his son starting Sunday and he would have a brand new 68 car and very, very fast to challenge Garrett with Sunday night! He also told me about several more MTC that should be appearing at Mottville very soon!
Justin Stump won his 2nd kart feature of the season over his father Bill and Danny Perkins.
Despite the cold the attendance front and back was only 3 less than last week! Merle Yoder purchased 2 new tires Thursday but had distributor problems in the feature. After the races Wesley Schaefer purchased 3 new tires so the Schaefer's are really serious about winning!
David T. Schaefer, our webmaster, returned to Mottville for the first time in 2002 and drove the track safety truck and it was great having him back! Judy Holden brought a “welcome back David” cake which was shared by all in the pits before the races!
Now
we start the point in the season where we get really serious about racing with
Sundays added to the Saturday night racing! Drivers driving both nights get
bonus points and we find out who is serious about challenging for the points
lead!
This coming week we will begin the process of winterizing our main concession-rest room building so that we can open earlier in the spring and run later in the fall and still have the water on! WE are getting new thresholds under the rest room doors and putting chalking under walls and then adding a suspended ceiling in both rest rooms with insulation on top of both and on top of the present suspended ceiling in the concession stand!
You can sense the excitement in the air as we start two per week racing! I know my blood flows much faster now! I can hardly wait for Sunday, what about you??
