POSTED April 7, 2025
Mother Nature was most unkind to us for our first Sunday evening race of 2002 at the Mottville Speedway April 7! It rained late Sunday morning and well into the afternoon and just when we opened the gates it really poured down! While it did not rain during the racing the track never did get dry and of course our crowd and car count was down as a result of the rain!
But the Thunder Car feature alone was well worth the price of admission! 7 TC braved the wet track and really put on a great show for the 35 lap feature! Harold Blowers took the early lead but gave way to Bryan Whitaker, our season points leader! Bill Crapo, who has said over and over he can not do well on a wet track, then challenged Whitaker and for the last 20 laps it was a royal battle for the lead between Crapo, Whitaker and Randy Burns with eventually Richard Allbee working his way from last (due to a spin out) and bouncing from 2nd to 4th and back again! Several times the lead car spun slightly and lost the lead! On the final lap Crapo just pulled away for his 2nd feature win of the season! Whitaker was 2nd and Allbee 3rd. Burns spun in turn 3 and finished 7th but earlier won both the heat and dash.
Whitaker keeps the points lead followed by Allbee, Burns, Root and Crapo! This could be a season long close race!
Fred
Garrett made it 6 Mini Thunder Car feature wins in 6 nights as he took the 20
lap feature over Brian Jenkins and Jennifer Jenkins! Garrett took home an easy
$50 for his win!
Jason Schafer made perhaps the easiest $75 he ever made in his life as he only had to beat his father, Wesley, for the money in the 20 lap Mottville Stock feature! Jason has a solid season points lead with Wesley now up to 4th after only 2 nights! Those bonus points for running both Saturday and Sunday really mount up fast!
Paul Scott was the only Pro Stock to show up and he was paid $50 for his efforts! He ran the 20 lap feature with the Schaefer's but was scored separately. Paul now has a big lead in the season points race after 6 nights and 4 feature wins!
More TC are certainly on the way as David Terry registered the 3 car and Vic Krontz reports that both he and Polk Wilbur will be running TC’s soon! I am hoping we have to have a B feature in TC before long!
A reminder that during April on Sundays we are paying a minimum of $125 to win the PS feature as long as there are at least 2 cars! Mottville Stocks pay at least $75 as long as there are at least 2 and TC and MTC pay at least $50 as long as there are at least 3 cars in each class. Some easy money here!
I will be ordering tires Monday and should receive them Wednesday or Thursday and definitely will have a load of tires at the track for practice this Thursday from 6-9 pm.
It is now less than 2 weeks until the Raymond Beers Memorial Race on April 21 (Sunday) and we are getting indications that this will be one of the biggest races ever at Mottville!
Also
the new racing newspaper-Michigan Racing Scene-will be on hand this coming
week-end at Mottville! It is free to all drivers and only $1 to everyone else!
Each track has a half page in the paper and each issue features one track on the
cover! This week it will be Spartan Speedway!
