JEFF BRUNT won his 4th
Pro Stock feature in 6 attempts on a cold Saturday night at the Mottville
Speedway! The win was worth $125 for Brunt in the 5 car field! Season points
leader Paul Scott survived a front stretch spin out into the infield and came
back for 2nd with Scott Newsom 3rd and Jim Peffley 4th.
Scott won the heat and dash. Brunt had a set of new Good Years on his car and
they made the difference! Fred Lowrey, 2nd in points, blew a
transmission in the heat but hoped to have the car repaired for Sunday.
Eric
Root won his first Thunder Car feature of the season in an exciting 25 lapper!
Root led the first 20 laps before losing the lead to John Wegner for 2 laps!
Wegner settled for 2nd followed by Bryan Whitaker. Robert Sutton
crossed the finish line 3rd but was dq'ed in post race inspection for
being under weight. Richard Allbee won the dash and moved into 5th
place in the point standings past the absent Cindy Grinnell. Sutton won the
heat. Season points leader Randy Burns had distributor problems and could not
race but should have the car fixed for Sunday. Will Slaughter purchased the Bill
Crapo car and drove it for the first time. He was 5th in the feature.
Jennifer
Jenkins survived a crash filled Mini Thunder Car 25 lap feature for her 2nd
feature win in a row! She came to a stop early in the race at the turn 4 end of
the front stretch wall, just barely missing it! Jennifer and Leroy Dick were
battling for the lead when Dick hit the lapped car of Greg Schaefer and both
cars were done for the night! Dick vowed to have his car ready for Sunday! Brian
Jenkins came home 2nd followed by season points leader Fred Garrett.
Sandy Degoede raced for the first time ever and the 14 year old finished 4th.
Garrett won the dash but in the heat he ended up in Mottville Lake after
colliding with Jennifer Jenkins and had to be towed out! Dick won the heat.
Jennifer Jenkins moved into 2nd in the points pass the absent Joe
Fitzpatrick.
Wesley
Schaefer won his first Mottville Stock feature of the season as he led all 15
laps! Robert Teadt, Jr. was 2nd and Jason Schaefer 3rd.
The win was worth $75 to Wesley who credited the win to new Good Year tires!
Teadt purchased two new tires after the race! Teadt won the heat.
Bomber
season points leader Vern Hammond was the only Bomber on Good Years and he
easily won his 2nd feature of the season with a 15 lap victory over
Jerry Scott, Wayne Saily and Scott Rozner. Scott won the heat.
It
was cold with a temperature in the lower 40’s but it sure beat the rain of
late! We had 25 cars which considering the cold weather was not bad but we had
at least 6 regulars absent so we could easily have hit 30 cars!
Tuesday
Ersell and myself mowed and killed weeds from 9 am to 6 pm! If it was not
covered in water we mowed it! We now have 3 mowers at the track and should be
able to keep up from now on, at least that is the plan!
We
still had Mottville Lake coming out on the track in turn 3 but the plan is to
pump water Sunday and get it off the track by the time we open! We did do some
pumping Saturday but did not get started early enough!
What
a week it was on the web site bulletin board! The most active ever I am sure! No
wonder we passed 26,000 hits! Well what we found out was most drivers do not
want a claim rule for the TC or MTC! Actually that is fine with me but the
reason I was considering a claim rule was because of all the complaints about a
certain TC and how much money the owner had in it! But the car has been
inspected several times and is perfectly legal!
Then
along comes the messages about the Mini Stocks! While I take exception to anyone
saying we are not paying our Mottville Stocks very well($50 for 2 cars, $75 for
3 and $100 for 6) I can understand that we might well need to start a division
for radial tires, 6” wheels Mini Stocks separate from the Mottville Stocks. I
have offered to pay $125 for 12 cars, $100 for 10 and $75 for 6 which is as good
or better than any other track running radials that I am aware of! So if we get
the cars we will run the division. Time will tell!
But
it was good to see so much activity on the bulletin board! I found out those TC
and MTC drivers are really passionate about their cars!
A
message on the M40 web site says there will be no stock car racing there in
2002! This might sound strange coming from me but I really do tend to doubt
this! I will predict that someone will be running at least one or more nights
there before the season is over! Again time will tell and I am guessing there is
a lot there that none of know!
Meanwhile
it would be most interesting to see what we could do if we ever had 2 nice
week-ends in a row! Everyone I talk to says this is the worse spring ever!
Michigan Racing Scene really complimented us on running all these nights despite
cold, snow, rain and anything else Mother Nature could give us! That is one more
compliment than the Marc Times has ever given us in 12 years!
Sunday
the Pro Stocks go for $350 if we have 8 cars and since we had 5 Saturday we
might well get the 8!
Sunday,
May 26 we have our first autograph night of the season in the middle night of a
triple header week-end! Monday, May 27 will be a complete trophy night with
trophies to all heat and dash winners and top 3 in the A features! Hard to
believe that Memorial Day week-end is only a week away!
Supposed to be a little warmer Sunday so come on out and see some exciting racing!
