STAN SICZEK won his first
feature of the season to kick off a triple header week-end on a cold Saturday
night at the Mottville Speedway! Siczek won the 25 lap Bomber feature and $100
as he passed Randy Burns on lap 7 of the feature and held off season points
leader Vern Hammond for the win! Hammond settled for 2nd and Burns 3rd.
A season high 6 Bombers were on hand with Hammond winning the dash and heat. At
intermission Burns decided to move from Thunder Cars to Bombers and when he gets
some Good Year tires he will be tough! 4 new Bomber cars were registered on the
night!
Jennifer
Jenkins won her 3rd Mini Thunder Car feature of the season as she
took the 25 lap feature over season points leader Fred Garrett! Greg Schaefer,
in a brand new car, was a season high 3rd! Jenkins also won the dash
and heat in the 6 car field. Dee Degoede should be joining MTC soon as he
registered the MTC 77 but had Will Slaughter drive it Saturday.
Jeff
Brunt made it 5 Pro Stock feature wins on the season as he took the 25 lapper
and won $125 for the 3 car field! Season points leader Paul Scott was a distant
2nd followed by Fred Lowrey. Brunt also won the heat.
Richard
Allbee won his first Thunder Car feature of the season as he held off Eric Root
for the win in the 25 lapper! Ron Kern, Jr. was 3rd. Burns won the
heat over Allbee.
Mottville
Stock Wesley Schaefer had a very easy night as he was the only MS to show up and
he was credited with a heat and feature win and $75 easy dollars!
The
weather was once again truly unbelievable! It rained all afternoon Saturday and
did not clear until we started racing at 7 PM! Still the track was dry and
despite the darkness and cold and wind we had one of our better crowds of the
season!
I
spent over 30 hours at the track Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday getting it
ready for the triple header week-end! Tuesday Ersell and I spent over 8 hours
each painting the walls white and they really did look nice and I could not
believe it but no one hit the walls! Vic Krontz helped Thursday and Friday with
the mowing and between the 3 of us we mowed every blade of grass that was not
under water! Finally caught up on mowing!
Monday
morning I plan on doing a little more painting and cutting some bushes out and
next Tuesday I hope to do one final weed killing and we should be in pretty good
shape! Frankly I have never seen the track look better than it did Saturday
night! Now we will try to keep on top of the mowing and paint over the marks on
the walls about every other week! Speaking of mowing we are looking for a 14 ˝
hp Briggs and Stratton engine for a garden tractor! If you have one give me a
call please!
Terry
Baldwin was at the track Saturday night and he told me he is about 2 weeks away
from having his PS ready to race! Joe Fitzpatrick has been having some health
problems but was at the track watching and he hopes to have his brother drive the MTC 4 Sunday. Bryan Whitaker
told me this week that he should be done racing in Kentucky in about 2 weeks and
it will be good to have Bryan back!
On
Memorial Day week-end I always think of racing and when I was a youth and my
father and I listened to the Indy 500 on the radio every year! This year I am
also thinking of the drivers we have lost in the past year including Ray Beers,
Floyd Courtney, Chip Jones and Chris Arnett.
The
weather people are actually telling us the weather will be great for Sunday and
Monday! Upper 70’s both days and sunny! PTL!! We really need it! A report in
the local weekly newspaper in Nappanee said that the local golf course had a 50%
decrease in income over the same period of a year ago and it was because of this
horrible weather so at least we are not alone! We have managed to get in 19
nights of racing and considering the hand we have been dealt I really feel we
have played our cars extremely well!
The
Elkhart Truth and ace reporter Tina Garrison had an article on the front page of
the sports section Thursday about the M40 closing and I was the only track owner
quoted and that had to do with our starting the Bomber division to give the M40
Pure Stocks a class to run. Tina says 3 local people have formed a group to try
to buy M40 and hope to have it open by July. That may be very optimistic as Paul
Zimmerman, who has run Spartan Speedway for 25 years, has been trying for
several months to buy Springport Speedway, which is also closed, and he still
has not got the job done! Still I said last week and I still believe that M40
will reopen this season. The rumor was making the rounds at Mottville that the 3
people seeking to buy the track had “lots of money and were not looking to
make any money!” If you believe that one I have some wonderful swamp land in
Florida to sell you! I have heard that story for 40 years over and over in
different locations! It has never happened and I doubt it ever will. My
experience with rich people is that they did not get rich by giving their money
away! The more you have the more you want!
But
I will say this and you take this to the bank with you! When M40 does reopen
Mottville Speedway will not roll over and play dead! We intend to be a major
player for the classes of cars that we run and with our low operating expenses
and not running expensive late models of any kind I feel we are in a very good
position for the future!
Sunday its our first Autograph Nite of the season and Monday is a trophy night! Drivers who drive 2 nights will receive 50 bonus points on the 2nd night and if they drive all 3 nights, 100 bonus points on the 3rd night! Last season Memorial Day was one of our biggest nights of the season and I have lots and lots of phone calls from drivers all over Indiana and Michigan inquiring about racing with us Sunday and Monday so I look for a good field of cars both days! Come on out and enjoy the warm weather and watch some exciting races!
