POSTED MARCH 30 , 2003

MERLE YODER won his 3rd Mini Stock feature of the season on a cold Sunday night at the Mottville Speedway as he battled season points leader Jon Fitzpatrick for the entire 30 laps for the win! Fitzpatrick settled for 2nd followed by Eric Root, Joe Fitzpatrick, Dennis Zimmerman and Kristy Zimmerman.

Jon Fitzpatrick won the Jenkins NAPA Auto Parts dash over Yoder and Dennis Zimmerman and he took the heat over Yoder and Dennis Zimmerman.

Two time defending Mini Thunder Car season points champion Fred Garrett won his 7th feature of the season with a 20 lap win over season points leader Derk Sargent and Tom Parrish. In the heat it was as Garrett over Sargent and Parrish.

Pro Stock defending season points champion and current season points leader Paul Scott won the ps feature for his 9th feature win of the season!

So March is now over for racing in 2003! We went where no other track in our area dares to go-running in March-not just a race or two but a full schedule of racing every Saturday and Sunday night for 10 nights total! While we might not do that again next season, at least the two nights per week part all month, we did make progress despite 7 of the 10 nights being very cold!

The MS class averaged 5 cars per night for the month with a high of 9. The MTC class averaged 3 with a high of 5. Even karts came two nights with a high of 3!

The PS class was not at all successful in March and we will not try running them again in March! In fact they run Sundays only the rest of the season!

We had only one street stock and that one came on the 9th night of racing in March but we know many are near to being ready and by running PS only on Sundays it will free up resources to pay the ss class very well! For a very stock ss we will be paying as well as any other track running a very stock ss in the area!

MS and MTC should see full fields in the next few weeks and ss right behind them!

We did register another MTC tonight-Tom Parrish from Hamilton who purchased his car from Steve Clifford.

Richard Allbee tried to run but had mechanical woes during hot laps. Richard has done a fantastic job in keeping the track very clean as he is using our new blower purchased last season to keep the track in very good condition!

Scott Rozner says he will be there in April and Paul Scott told me Matt Buzzard is not far away on having his ss done! So we should be running ss soon

Another most encouraging note was despite the cold weather our crowds in front are gradually picking up!

But the best news is that March is over and we can move into April and generally much warmer weather and improved car counts! Meanwhile those who did race like Jon Fitzpatrick, Eric Root, John Fitzpatrick, Paul Scott, Fred Garrett and Derk Sargent to name a few got a big jump in the season points battle!

We are open for practice very Thursday now until Thanksgiving from 6-9 pm! This Saturday we start racing at 7 pm and Indiana and Michigan are on the same time for the last time until late October! Sunday when we race at 6 pm Michigan time it will be 5 pm in Indiana!

I plan on being in the chat room again this week, hopefully Monday and Wednesday after 8:30 pm and perhaps Tuesday and Thursday as well. The following week I will not be in the chat room at all as I will be on a trip for several days.

Think spring and warmer weather and racing and come on out to Mottville in April and catch some great racing!
