DERK SARGENT drove the best race of his two season career Saturday night at the Mottville Speedway and held off repeated challenges from Steve Clifford to win his 2nd Mini Thunder Car feature of the season!

Clifford challenged Sargent lap after lap in the 15 lapper on the inside but could never quite get by as Sargent padded his season points lead! Chuck Hall was a close 3rd and two time defending MTC champion Fred Garrett right behind in 4th. Randy Morley was 5th.

IN the heat it was Clifford over Hall and Garrett while in the Jenkins Napa Auto Parts Stores dash it was Sargent over Hall and Garrett.

Matt Buzzard won an easy $100 in taking the 15 lap street stock feature for his first feature win of the season! Mike Grand was 2nd and the heat results were the same.

Merle Yoder won his 5th Mini Stock feature of the season with a 25 lap victory over Dennis Zimmerman, Eric Root and Glenna Sargent. The battle for 2nd was really tight with Zimmerman just managing to hold off a hard charging Root! Yoder picked up $100 for the night as he also won the heat over Root and Zimmerman. Sargent was making her first ever start in a car she had hot lapped only briefly before the races.

Defending kart champion Jacob Caines won his first heat and feature of the season and moved into 3rd in the season point standings!

Next week the Mottville Mini Cups start their season with the first of 15 dates at Mottville. On Sunday the Pro Stocks join the field.

It was a warm 70’s for the races and we not rain despite the constant prediction of rain!

It will certainly seem strange not running this Sunday but it will be our final Sunday off until December! We have 15 points night in already in 2003 and 16 nights total with 73 points nights and 75 total nights left so a lot of racing action left in this 2003 season!

We have a lot on interest in pro stocks this past week! Dave Roberts had his new PS at practice Thursday and again tonight for hot lapping at intermission and plans to buy tires Thursday and race next Sunday. We also had 3 more PS who have not run with us yet this season express interest.

I am ordering tires this week and should have them at the track both for Thursday practice and for the week-end racing. If anyone wants to come to Nappanee to get them I should have them Wednesday.

I should be in the chat room the first 3 days of next week.

The 3rd week of April is always a tough one because of other tracks opening and this year it was a little tougher because of not running Sunday due to Easter.

The MTC feature was certainly the closest race positions 1-4 we have had all season!

Grand had his car to Mottville for the first time in 2003 but had smoke problems! Vic Krontz assured me he will have the car running well by next week-end!

Richard Allbee had MTC running again but after running the dash it overheated in the heat and he was unable to make the feature.

Next week-end will complete April for us already! Seems unreal that we will have completed two full months already!

I am optimistic enough about the weather than I shut off the heaters in the rest rooms and concession stand and unplugged the heat tapes all over!

The return of the MMC will be the first of 20 outside shows this season as we have one most of the Saturday nights through October and then we have the PS on Sundays.

Richard Allbee helped me paint the wall this week and the start-finish line and the line around the inside of the corners and it was really bright!

Hope everyone has a nice Easter and I can’t wait for next week-end and another great week-end of racing at the Mottville Speedway!
