JASON
SCHAEFER came to the Mottville Speedway for the first time this season Saturday
night and won the Mini Stock 15 lap feature and heat and $100 for the night!
Season
points leader Eric Root gave Schaefer a real run for the money as the two traded
the lead back and forth for the entire 15 laps! Rookie Glenna Sargent was 3rd.
12
year old Matt Van Dam made his stock car racing debut in a MS but had mechanical
woes during the heat and was unable to run the feature.
Two
time Mini Thunder Car defending champion Fred Garrett passed Richard Allbee on
the final lap of the 15 lap MTC feature for his 11th feature win of
the season. Allbee led the first 14 laps but not the most important lap-the
final one! Allbee settled for a close 2nd followed by Chuck Hall,
season points leader Derk Sargent and Steve Clifford. In the heat it was Garrett
over Clifford and Allbee.
Street
Stock season points leader Robert Sutton padded his points lead by winning the
heat and feature.
The
Midwest Classic Racers Dwarf Cars returned to Mottville for the first time since
1999 and Tom Sliwa easily won the 20 lap feature! 16 cars started the feature
but 3 were eliminated on the first lap in turns one and two with 2 cars hitting
the wall. No one was hurt. Eric Hoffman was 2nd followed by Goff,
Andy Taylor and John Wylie.
Sliwa
won the first heat over Taylor and Wylie while the 2nd heat went to
Hoffman over Rob Rodney and Goff. The MCR Dwarf Cars return July 24.
Severe
thunderstorms were predicted and held down the crowd and number of cars greatly
but a beautiful night for racing and not a drop of rain after 2 pm!
Speaking
of weather-it is really sad what our TV
people will resort to get you to watch their station. All day long severe
weather alerts! I checked the radar
and Weather Channel on out web site and the WC said 30% chance of isolated
thundershowers during race time. But when looking at the radar it showed nothing
within 500 miles of Mottville after 3 pm! So, our course, people were scared of
the severe weather predicted and stayed away. But , again, there was no severe
weather and as of midnight Saturday
night it had not even rained since 2 pm!
Sunday is Mother’s Day and all mothers will receive a free hot dog and soft drink! No matter what the weather predictions we will be running Sunday at Mottville so bring mom on out for some good racing!
