We
rarely ever cancel at the Mottville Speedway but Sunday we cancelled for only
the 3rd time in the last 4 years! It was raining hard, the wind was
25-30 mph and it was 50 degrees! It reminded me a great deal of our cancellation
in June 2000 except this time the wind was higher and the temperature was
colder! No doubt everyone involved would have been soaked to the skin!
But
before I left we had at least 10 cars show up despite the weather! MS on hand
were Eric Root, Glenna Sargent, Danny Zimmerman, Jason Schaefer and Jason Weaver (passed
him as I
was leaving
the track!)
MTC
were Derk Sargent, Richard Allbee and Fred Garrett while Paul Scott arrived with
his PS and Robert Sutton with his SS. So about 10 cars which was really good for
the weather!
Saturday
night we were one of the very few tracks in our area to run! I know of at least
3 who cancelled and only one so far who ran!
This
Saturday the Mottville Mini Cups return for their 3rd appearance of
the season and hopefully they have a few more cars. Our own car count is looking
up as Charlie Krontz purchased a set of GoodYears Thursday but had some health
issues and did not race Saturday. Charlie hopefully will have his SS out this
coming week-end! Barry Harrison and his son-in-law Adam Roth should have their
MS at practice Thursday and racing Saturday!
Gradually
we are getting our car count up. With our
small operation we can run a decent program with about 20 cars and we are
getting the 20 on Sundays and now need to work on Saturdays. Hopefully Mike
Grand will have his SS repaired by the week-end. We are getting close on MS now
and SS is final class we need to build up.
We
had not qualified cars since 1999 but Saturday night we did not miss a beat in
time trailing the 16 Dwarf cars! Ran them off in about 10 minutes and I want to
compliment our staff on a job well done!
Vic
Krontz won the stereo-tv given away by the Midwest Classis Racers Saturday night
and Eric Root won the Chevrolet
Racing Shoes given away by Robert Sutton!
This
coming Sunday hot dogs are 50 cents all night! Then comes the triple header
week-end of Memorial Day week-end! Saturday is our first Powder Puff of the
season, Sunday is autograph night and Monday is a trophy night. This coming
Sunday night I will poll the Pro Stock drivers to see if they want to run
Memorial Day Monday. If most do then we will add them to the Monday show.
Compared
to what I am hearing at several other areas tracks we are very good shape as we
head to mid-May! Our car count is not what we would like and are crowds could
certainly be larger but we are running our program and it does not require large
car counts and/or crowds to be successful. Right now with the economy the way it
is I am really glad we are where we are instead of where some of our area tracks
are!
Anyway
I always absolutely hate cancellations but tonight was one of those nights and
hopefully the last cancellation for 2003!
Saturday
night Mottville Mini Cups and Sunday night hot dogs 50 cents! I hope to be on
the chat room Monday and Wednesday nights and we practice Thursday night.
Hope
all the Mothers had a wonderful Mother’s Day despite the weather and hope
everyone has a great week!
