Mini Stock season points leader ERIC ROOT and 12 year old rookie MATT VAN DAM battled it out for 14 laps of the 15 lap feature Saturday night, exchanging the lead back and forth, before Van Dam spun coming out of turn two on the final lap and Root had his 6th feature win of the season!

Glenna Sargent was 2nd with Van Dam taking 3rd. Earlier in the heat Van Dam won his first heat ever over Root and Sargent.

Two time defending Mini Thunder Car champion Fred Garrett nipped Richard Allbee at the finish line to win his 17th feature of the season! Derk Sargent was 3rd.

In the heat it was Allbee over Garrett and Sargent.

Defending kart champion and current season point’s leader Jacob Caines won his 4th feature of the season in a 12 lapper and also won the heat.

Dave Kutz won his first Mottville Mini Cup feature of the season in a 12 lapper and also won the heat.

Street Stock season points leader Robert Sutton won his 9th feature of the season with a 15 lap win over Root, Garrett, Van Dam, Allbee, Derk Sargent and Glenna Sargent.

We are in the process of starting a new Bomber class. 6 cylinder, front wheel drive stock cars with very little modification permitted. Carb or fuel injection, no turbos. Tires must be radial max 15 by 8 and 60,65,70,75 or 78 series. The cars will have a $500 claimer ($700 with full roll cage) and may claimed by anyone within 5 minutes after the feature. Like the MTC class this will be a “fun class”!

Like the last several Saturdays it was another day of dark clouds, misty rain and cool temps but this time about the time we opened the clouds began to go away and the sun came out!

Vic Krontz called on his cell phone after pay-off and said that he was in route with Mike Grand’s SS from Ft. Wayne and was in Rome City so we should have Grand racing with us Sunday!

Tonight was the first time this season we ran the SS, MS and MTC together in one combined feature for an extra feature and it worked out great and was well received! I am sure we will do it again, at least with the MS and SS from time to time when car counts are down.

There is a lot of interest in the new Bomber class and Ernie Hassler apparently has one and is bringing it to the track next Saturday! All new points and a chance for someone to win a season’s point champion racing about half a season! This is another class that really should fit right in with our goal of economy, fun racing at Mottville!

Charley Krontz reported that he should be back at Mottville with his SS next Saturday!

It was great to see Van Dam win his first heat ever and do so well in both features he ran! He is really coming along for only 12 years old! He had quite a few family members in the stands cheering him on as did karter Jacob Caines!

Leroy Dick was at the track for the first time in a long time and hope to have a race car in about two months! It was very good to see Leroy again!

The Elkhart Truth had a photographer on site tonight and taking pictures of Eric Root and Rita Courtney for a big story in the paper next Thursday so be sure and buy an Elkhart Truth Thursday. The following week the big story will be on Paul Scott!

Sunday kids ride in the race cars at intermission and we are expecting a very good field of cars for another night of exciting racing at Mottville!
