JASON
SCHAEFER won his 2nd Mini Stock feature of the season on a rainy
Sunday night at the Mottville Speedway as he handled the wet track well and won
the 15 lapper over season points leader Eric Root, leading rookie Glenna Sargent
and Todd Behlke. In the heat it was Schaefer over Root and Behlke. Sargent moved
to 2nd in the season point standings.
Charley
Krontz won his 2nd street stock feature in a row as he took the 15
lapper over season points leader Robert Sutton. Sutton won the heat on a
extremely wet track! Krontz moved to 4th in the season point
standings.
Pro
Stock season points leader Paul Scott won his 12th feature of the
season in a 15 lap victory over Jeff Brunt and Leonard Roberts. Results were the
same in the heat.
Two
time Mini Thunder Car defending champion and current season points leader Fred
Garrett just beat Derk Sargent across the finish line for his 20th
feature win of the season! Richard Allbee was 3rd and 12 year old
Andrew Behlke 4th.
Andrew
Behlke also drove a kart for the first time this season and won the 10 lap
feature over TJ Behlke. In the heat it was TJ over Andrew. Andrew is a previous
kart season points champion.
This
Saturday night the Short Track Truck Challenge Series will come to Mottville for
the first time ever! Gates will open at 5:30 and racing action begins at 7.
Sunday all father’s will receive a free hot dog and soft drink with racing
starting at 6 pm.
After
raining in the early morning the rains went away until about 5:15 pm. After that
it was small periods of light rain and then sun. By the time of the last feature
the track was starting to dry in spots! When we get this kind of weather we just
do the best we can. We run and pay as well as we can and go on as we feel it
beats not running at all!
Considering
the weather we had a decent car count! One MS and 2 karts came but stayed in the
parking lot and then left due to the weather but those drivers who stayed and
raced seemed to enjoy it. As is usually the case when the track is wet no car
was crashed at all! But we did have 4 wide racing in the MTC division at times!
3
big news items from Sunday! First Dave Roberts, owner of the PS 36, has decided
to convert the car to a ss by this Saturday! He wants to race both
Secondly,
Fred Garrett is seriously considering switching to MS from MTC! I think he is
concerned about the coming $500 claimer rule for MTC and also wants to run in a
division where he can make more money. MTC are considered a “fun” division
and those seeking more money should move up.
Thirdly,
the wind blew out the plexiglass that had already been patch in our pit tower on
the southwest corner and Monday I am bringing Richard Allbee a new window to put
in there which will really look nice! Plus Richard is installing a new railing
for the steps to the tower as soon as I bring him the treated lumber Monday!
So
despite the economy and weather we just keep rolling along at Mottville and roll
with the punches and move on! We do the best we can with what we have!
Andrew
Behlke moved to 7th in the MTC season point standings and should move
to 6th next week-end! Todd Behlke moved to 16th in the MS
season point standings and could move to as high as 8th next
week-end! I also think Andrew and TJ Behlke could both make a serious challenge
for the kart season championship yet this season! Plenty of season left!
Speaking
of season championships the Bomber division is wide open just waiting for
someone to come along and win it! 6 cylinder, front wheel drive and very similar
to MTC! Lots of those types of cars available and with a $500 claimer rule this
will be a “fun” and “economical” class! Josh Krontz was talking to me
about the Bomber class.
Big,
big week-end coming up! The trucks should really be exciting and then Father’s
Day Sunday! Meanwhile the first Friday night special of the season is getting
closer with MS going 50 laps for $250 to win on June 27! Right now it looks like
we will have a nice field of cars for this one!
About
60 nights to go in this 2003 season and warm even hot weather has to be just
around the corner!
