GLENNA SARGENT won her first feature race ever on a warm Father’s Day Sunday at the Mottville Speedway! Sargent, a rookie driving in her 17th feature, became the 11th different Mini Stock feature winner this season as she took the 12 lapper over season points leader Eric Root. Earlier she won her 2nd heat of the season over Root.
Charlie Krontz moved into 2nd in the street stock season point standings by winning his 4th feature of the season with a 15 lap win over season points leader Robert Sutton! In the heat it was Krontz over Sutton and in the Jenkins NAPA Auto Parts Stores dash it was Krontz over Sutton and Mike Grand.
Jeff Brunt won his 6th Pro Stock feature of the season in a 15 lapper over season points leader Paul Scott. In the heat it was Scott over Brunt.
Steve Clifford made it 7 Mini Thunder Car feature wins on the season as he took the 15 lapper over Richard Allbee and Derk Sargent. In the heat it was Sargent over Allbee and Clifford. Sargent moved into the season point standings lead!
Kart defending season points champion Jacob Caines won his 5th feature of the season with a 12 lap win over Tyler Baird. Results were the same in the heat and Caines padded his season points lead.
This Saturday the Mottville Mini Cup cars return and Sunday hot dogs are 50 cents all evening!
Since it was Father’s Day we were pleased to continue our tradition of giving all fathers a free hot dog and soft drink! In the “how do you figure it?” category we actually had a few more people in front for a regular show than we had Saturday night for the trucks! Who knows?
Robert Sutton told me after the races he and Dennis Zimmerman may be building another street stock soon for Dennis to race at Mottville! This is in addition to the new ss Sutton is building for himself which should be done very soon! Rob hopes that his present SS truck which is being raffled off will be won by someone who will race it at Mottville!
We had a question regarding pay-offs. To start the season we paid the SS and MS $100 or $90 to win the feature with 3 or more cars. However, all this really did was lose money for us as our car count did not improve at all! So now we are trying to spread the money out more evenly while building our car count. The more cars we get the more we will pay! I will repeat that~THE MORE CARS WE GET THE MORE WE WILL PAY! We can pay far more to win with 10 cars than 3! Ditto for 2nd place and 3rd place!
What I have learned in the past 12 years is that there is very little alone I can do to improve car count. It takes all the drivers working together to get more cars. When we get more cars we all benefit together! Meanwhile we do the best we can with what we have and go on! I will say that with the low car counts we are running only 12 and 15 lap features so the car expense is also much lower and their have been very few crashes also so that lowers the expense of running a car!
We are prepared to run Bombers whenever we get them! If we get only one then we will find a place to run that one and give him or her Bomber points! Again Bombers are 6 cylinder, front wheel drive, very stock! When we get the Bomber class started it will have a $500 claimer rule($700 with roll cage) and the claimer is for the complete car less safety harness and nothing more! At the time the Bombers start within 2 weeks we will start the same claimer rule on the MTC. We are determined to keep the cost of racing as low as possible for these two “economy, fun classes”!
I do know we have had a lot inquiries about SS, Bombers, MTC and MS during the past few weeks and given time all these classes will increase car counts! Of that I have no doubt as I said before until that happens we just do the best we can with what we have!
Meanwhile Eric Root, Paul Scott, Fred Garrett, Derk Sargent and Richard Allbee are all on schedule for points money! Sutton, Glenna Sargent and Brunt are getting closer each night! If we had 8 people get points money for the season that would be a very good total! Many seasons it has only been 3-5!
Anyway this was a great week-end for racing with warm weather finally! The week-end went way too fast! Seems like it just started! Looking forward to next week-end and another two days of racing action at Mottville!
