MERLE
YODER
won his 7th Mini Stock feature of the season on a beautiful
Sunday night at the Mottville Speedway as he won the 20 lapper which again
featured 3 wide racing for much of the race! Jason Schaefer was 2nd
followed by season points leader Eric Root, leading rookie Glenna Sargent and Todd Behlke.
Yoder
won the Jenkin’s NAPA Auto Parts Stores dash over Schaefer and Root and took
the heat with the same finishing order! Schaefer moved into 5th in
the season point standings and Behlke 8th.
A
season high 6 karts were on hand and they put on a awesome show with Bill Stump
winning the 15 lap feature in his first time out at Mottville in 2003! His son,
Justin, was 2nd followed by Ray Swink, Mike Zehr, season points
leader Jacob Caines and Andrew Behlke.
In
the dash it was Behlke over Zehr and Caines and in the heat it was Justin Stump
over Zehr and Swink. Behlke moved to 4th in the season point
standings only 3 points out of 3rd!
Chuck
Hall won his 2nd Mini Thunder Car feature of the season in a 15
lapper over season points leader Derk Sargent, Richard Allbee and Andrew Behlke.
Hall also won the heat over Sargent and Allbee. Behlke moved to 6th
in the season point standings.
Jeff
Brunt recorded his 7th Pro Stock feature of the season as he passed
season points leader Paul Scott and lap 10 and went to the victory over Scott
and Doug Nichols. Heat results were the same.
Charlie
Krontz won his 6th Street Stock feature of the season in a 15 lapper
and also won the heat.
June
27,28 &
29 is a triple header week-end! Friday is our first Friday night show of the
season with MS going 50 laps for $250 to win! Plus SS, MTC and Karts! Saturday
will be a powder puff and 4 regular classes and Sunday the Pro Stocks return.
The
karts alone were worth the price of admission easily! Andrew Behlke in the
feature twice went from 5th to 2nd in turn 3! The first
time he came out of 4 high and was back in 5th but the second time he
stayed low to hold 2nd until one lap later his chain busted and he
was done for the night!
There
was not a slow kart in the field! Hopefully this week-end is the start of
increasing kart counts as we had 4 on Saturday to go with the 6 today!
We
are expecting a large field of MS for the 50 lapper Friday! Scott Baker will
drive Merle Yoder’s back-up car and Merle will drive his Angola car! It
appears we will also have several new cars
coming for the first time plus a
good percentage of those who have already run this season. Larry Birk should be
coming for the first time this season! Plus we have had inquires from at least 2
other cars who have not appeared at Mottville yet this season!
A
week from Friday, on July 4
(does not seem possible July 4 is
almost here!) the SS run 50 laps for $250 to win and one has to wonder if
Charlie Krontz will win the $250 by default! We have had a lot of people picking
up rules for SS and we did have one new car this week-end plus Dave Roberts is
supposed to be converting his car to a ss so time will tell!
Mid-season
championship trophy night is only 3 weeks away! July 13! That will be our 41st
points night of the season out of 87 so just slightly before the halfway mark
technically!
All
in all this was a very good week-end of racing and great weather! Now we are
moving into the heart of the season with a lot of triple header week-ends coming
up between now and mid-September! Should be most exciting!
Wanted
to mention that Jeff Brunt has really got that #1 PS humming! I have never seen
the car handle so well! He passed Paul Scott on the outside both in the heat and
the feature!
So
3 days “off” before hot laps on Thursday and then the start of triple header
week-end!
