ROD
ROBERTS
raced at the Mottville Speedway for the
first time in 2003 and won the 50 laps Mini Stock feature and $250 on the first
Friday night race of the season!
Jason
Schaefer led the first 18 laps before Roberts, starting on the tail, got by and
he gradually pulled away from 2nd place finishing Jason Weaver for
the win. Robert Teadt held off Merle Yoder for 3rd and season points
leader Eric Root was 5th. Yoder won the Jenkins NAPA Auto Parts
Stores dash over Schaefer and Root.
Josh
West won the first Bomber feature of the season in a 12 lapper and also won the
heat while Mini Thunder Car season point’s leader Derk Sargent won his 3rd
feature of the season in a 12 lapper and also took the heat.
Kart
season point’s leader Jacob Caines won his 6th feature of the
season in a 10 lapper and also won the heat.
Charley
Krontz made it 7 Street Stock feature wins as he took the 12 lapper over season
point’s leader Robert Sutton and also won the heat.
For
our first Friday night race of the season it went pretty well! We made a very
good MS pay-off for only 7 cars! $250-$90-$70-$50 for the top 4 who all finished
on the lead lap.
Barry
Harrison was a spectator and reported he has a blown engine on his MS and may
well be out for a long, long while! Those 3/8 mile high banked tracks will ruin
an engine far faster than Mottville!
In
winning the dash Yoder recorded his 100th win at Mottville! Quite a
record for still very young driver!
Had
a report from a reliable source that the Wilbur clan will have a SS and a MTC in
about two weeks!
We
have made some adjustments to our schedule as we near the halfway point of the
season. We have added Friday, August 1 to the schedule for a MS 50 lapper with
$250 to win. The 2-50 lappers that were previously scheduled for Saturdays have
been moved to Fridays and we have added a powder puff in September, giving us 4
for the season.
July
4 the SS go 50 laps for $250 to win and then we will decide on which Friday
nights we run the SS for 50 laps and which it is the MS. But each Friday that we
run we will be running MS, SS, MTC, Bombers and Karts!
After
tonight there are still 7 Friday night shows left-July 4,18, August 1, 8,
September 5,12,19.
This
Saturday starts day two of our triple-header weekend and we will have a ladies
powder puff! Should be exciting!
Interesting
column by Dick Beebe in the Marc Times Racing News this week. He seems to lament
that two tracks cancelled their shows with the GLOSS Sprints. He goes on to say
that another track racing sprints last week “had a decent crowd”. I cannot
help but think that probably means the crowd was not enough to cover the huge
expense of sprints! I heard that our area of tracks recently had sprints and
crowd was small! So given the way things are this season with the economy and
smaller crowds I cannot see how you blame any promoter for canceling an outside
show. Some of the traveling shows are really hurting for dates and they need to
figure out how to cut expenses to make their show less expensive!
Well enough preaching for now! Looking forward to day two of our triple-header weekend on Saturday!
