POSTED AUGUST 2 , 2003

JASON CLINE came to the Mottville Speedway for the first time this season Saturday night and won the 15 lap Mini Thunder Car feature, finished 2nd in the 12 lap feature and won two heats!

In the 12 lap feature Richard Allbee took home the win and Allbee was 2nd in the 15 lapper. Cline won the first heat over Andrew Behlke, Allbee and Chuck Hall and the 2nd heat over Behlke and Allbee. Allbee moved to within 57 points of 2nd place in the season point standings.

Merle Yoder won his 11th Mini Stock feature of the season with a 15 lap win over season points leader Eric Root! Results were the same in the heat.

Terry Baldwin won his first Bomber feature of the season in a 12 lapper and won the heat to move into 2nd spot in the season point standings.

Mike Zehr won the 12 lap kart feature for his 4th feature win of the season.

Friday night’s races were about ready to start when the thunderstorms came in forcing the 2nd cancellation of the season. Saturday there were predictions of more thunderstorms but they stayed away from Mottville this time!

Yoder is about two nights away from moving into 2nd place in the MS season point standings!

It was sure a night of car troubles as Glenna Sargent was unable to get her MS started despite several attempts at push starting it. Behlke’s machine ran hot and was unable to run either feature. Both Allbee and Baldwin had mechanical woes but managed to run!

We did register two new MTC between Friday and Saturday! MTC are a “fun class” and about 2 or 3 drivers have been way too serious about this class, putting way too much money into their car and tonight we turned the cars around in each heat at the halfway point! Keeps everyone honest!

I can see the MTC car count getting much bigger if we keep the costs down. We are now very near to a $500 claimer, $600 with full roll cage. For certain in 2004 and probably yet this season.

I felt very fortunate to get this one in tonight as the forecast was for thundershowers again! But actually it was a great night for racing so you never know!

I had John Delarye out Thursday to give me an estimate on building a new track for karts for 2004. Basically on the first stretch just past the start finish line a new turns one and two would start and curve through the infield to about where the bleachers end at the backstretch wall. That would no walls in turns one and two at all, none in 3 and 4 and only a small portion of wall on the backstretch. But right now the project is on hold unless and until I get some positive response from karters and right now that has not happened. No use spending the considerable amount of money it will take if there is no interest!

It was great to have the Behlke’s back! Jeans says Todd will be driving the MS for a few more nights and then she will take over for the balance of the season. They should have at least 3 karts running soon including one for her father, Tom Koehler! Will be great to have Tom back again!

We will be getting a new sign for the track this fall. The present sign will be torn down and replaced with a brand new, much smaller one.

We may also be moving some bleachers this fall. The section to the far west in the pits may well be moved to the front stretch and at least one or both of the present front stretch stands torn down. Eventually we will have new aluminum bleachers on the front stretch.

Sunday we will try to get in our 2nd night of racing this week-end! Again the prediction of TS but lets hope they were wrong like they were tonight!

Next week-end is a triple header week-end again and Friday night will be giving the “oval” trophies to all heat winners in all divisions plus the top 5 in all divisions including karts!

The Pro Stock season championship has been moved up to Sunday, September 7. This will make 30 nights for the PS in 2003. 10 of those nights were in March. It will free up Paul Scott and Jeff Brunt to run two day shows in September at other tracks.

Richard Allbee turns 60 on Sunday, August 10 so be sure to wish our oldest driver a happy birthday!
