MERLE
YODER won his 12th Mini Stock
feature of the season as he took the 15 lapper on the final Friday night race of
2003! Shane Eldridge was 2nd followed by Eric Root, Dale Barnett and
Glenna Sargent.
Yoder
won the dash and one heat and Eldridge won a heat.
Larry
Saunders won the 15 lap Street Stock feature and the heat while Tony Eldridge
won the Bomber 15 lap feature and heat.
Yet
another thunderstorm came in the area about 2 hours before we opened and stayed
around until we did open! This killed any hope for a good car count and crowd.
But I guess we should be used to it by now as the weather for this racing season
has been the worse ever!
In
any event our Friday night shows have not worked out. First we tried higher
pay-offs and then more expensive trophies but in the end we were not successful
so we will stick with just Saturday and Sunday nights the remainder of the
season.
There
seems to be some confusion, at least on the part of one driver, about trophies
for heats. When we combine the MTC and Bombers into a heat we generally give
only a trophy to the actual winner. We do give separate points, however. We have
been extremely generous in the features however and given a first place trophy
to both the Bomber and MTC top car even if the Bomber were last, which is
usually the case. But no matter how much you do for some people it is never
enough it seems!
But
if the pattern continues for the rest of 2003 where the Bombers are actually
slower than the MTC we might well just make MTC 4 or 6 cylinders next season and
not have separate divisions. When we started the Bomber division we assumed that
a 6 cylinder car would be faster than a 4 cylinder car but so far that has not
been the case! In fact the 6 cylinders have been considerably slower than the 4
cylinders!
Thursday
I went to Baer Field Speedway in FT Wayne for the first time since the mid to
late 1980’s! I had been invited to be a guest and bring the pace car. I wanted
to see the new 3/8 mile track within the ½ mile. I was impressed with how the
two blend together!
Had
a great time for the Sunoco Late Model 100 lapper and the 50 lapper for the
Modifieds. In the Mod feature one car hit the wall about 20 down from the start-
finish
line and went on his top and actually slid on his top all the way down the track
and over the bank in turn one! Amazingly he walked away with only dirt in his
eyes!
While
at Baer Field I had a group of late model drivers approach me about running a
late model show either the 3rd or 4th week of September
after BF closes. They stated they had been to Mottville before and had a good
time, in fact, one of the men was actually wearing a Mottville Speedway t shirt!
So we actually may see a LM race at Mottville in late September!
Well
the forecast
for the balance of the week-end is warm and dry! Lets hope so because this
weather pattern is for the fish!
Yoder
pulled within 36 points of 3rd place in the MS season point
standings! Eldridge moved to 7th and Barnett to 11th. All
3 could move more with bonus points if they run one or more nights this
week-end!
Saunders
moved to 4th in the SS point standings. He is now just 19 points out
of 3rd!
Saturday
night is a regular show and Sunday kids ride in the race cars. August 16 the
Short Track Trucks Challenge Series.Com comes to Mottville for the 2nd
time this season and the Dwarf cars return for the 3rd time on August
23. Remember the Dwarfs will be giving away a stereo-TV
set to some lucky person in the drawing! Vic Krontz won the last time!
We
registered two more MTC cars this week and had a 3rd person take a
registration form with him! This class should be at 10-12 cars very soon which
will really be exciting!
