POSTED DECEMBER 5, 2025

November 25, 2025 we concluded our 50th season at the Mottville Speedway! I am most pleased to report that it was the most successful of the 10 seasons under current management. We ran the final afternoon of racing on a very wet track, fitting for a season which saw us cancel completely only one night out of 71! Surely this must be a record for the state of Michigan! The one and only night we cancelled it rained and rained heavy from 7 P.M. until well past midnight! 3 other nights we could not get the entire program in and finished it the next racing night. We ran many a night in a misty rain or cold.

Some of the highlights of our 50th season included getting the Thunder Car class. Getting a new class of cars started is always a big big challenge but we got it done and over it and in 2001 the Thunder Car class may well grow to be our biggest class as it is a "fun" class and very very low cost.

At the start of the season the 4 cylinder Mottville Stocks were our biggest class and while they remained strong all season long, the Bomber class is the class which made the most progress late in the season!

Randy Morley won his 2nd Street Stock season championship, having won in 1997. He was dominant in 2000 winning 44 features! We had our 2nd female season points champion in as many seasons as Melissa Worthington took home the Bomber title the year following Jean Belhke doing it in Mottville Stocks. They are the only two season points champions of the female gender in the 50 years but surely not the last!

David T. Schaefer won his first title ever by taking the Mottville Stock division with his brother Wesley taking home the Rookie of the Year honors and 2nd place in a great family affair!

Terry Kline was the short season Thunder Car champ,
 with Dixie Worthington just behind.

Greg Brown bested his sister Jessica Brown for Kart champion!

Our closes race was for Bomber Rookie of the Year with 14 year old Terry Humphries coming on strong at the end to edge Eric Odom. Humphries finished 2nd to Worthington in the points with Odom 3rd.

Charles Darr was 3rd in the Street Stock points and also Rookie of the Year.

Robert Teadt, Jr. started the year late and missed some races due to conflicts with driving a Vintage modified but still came home 3rd in Mottville Stocks points and won 32 features!

In about every category we can measure, it was a very, very successful year! Now we want to grow even more in 2001.

We started on December 2, 2025 when 6 drivers and 3 track officials took part in a work day at the track. David T. Schaefer, Wesley Schaefer, Larry Birk, Randy Morley, Merle Yoder, Enos Yoder, Tom Pearson, Ersell Eby and myself worked hard all day tearing down two sets of bleachers, cleaning out the oil dry room, and doing some electrical work. The area were the bleachers were torn down will be paved over and new bleachers eventually installed, but in the meantime they will make great lawn chair areas for viewing the races. A big big thank you to all for the help!!

A few days after that we had 16 tons of limestone put in the driveway back to the pits, finally filling that hole at the pit gate that flooded every time it rained!

More improvements are planned and we will cover them in future columns here, plus talk some more about our 50th season and the past, present and future of Mottville Speedway!!!
