POSTED DECEMBER 25, 2025
Hello everyone, Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
Tina Garrison, ace reporter for the Elkhart Truth, wrote what I considered to be the best article ever on the Mottville Speedway on Thursday, December 21, 2025 when she did the season wrap-up article. Having read the article several times no I am convinced that Tina truly understands our philosophy at Mottville!
Interesting enough, no matter how good a season a driver might have had, " it's always greener on the other side of the fence"! Tina quotes Bomber champion Melissa Worthington as saying she plans on trying two other tracks and fourth place Merle Yoder, Mottville Stock, who did far far better at Mottville than anywhere else, is quoted as saying he also plans to try other tracks! Now you can never really fault people and drivers for trying to get ahead, I mean where would Jeff Gordon be if he stayed in southern Indiana? But on the other hand very few drivers who have won season championships at Mottville have gone to bigger and better things after they left Mottville! In the vast majority of the cases they would have been way better off to have stayed at Mottville! Too often a driver looks only at what another track may pay to win and not what the expense will be at the track and the likelihood of a major crash costing major bucks and what the pay might be down the line because one driver is going to win per night!
Randy Morley won the Mottville Street Stock championship in 1997 and then returned again in 2000 to do it again. He had some success at Galesburg for certain in between but nothing close to a track championship!
Many young drivers do not appreciate just how horribly difficult it is to win a track championship! You can literally drive for 50 seasons and not do it! I have seen younger drivers at Mottville virtually have the points championship "wrapped up" and then blow it because they had to attend some races elsewhere! They seemed amazed to come back and discover "time had not stood still" while they were away and someone else had taken over first place in the points standings!
I always figured that if you missed a night of racing you had no complaint coming about triple points or bonus points because if you had been there you would have had them too! For example, the "A" feature pays 40 points, so on triple points night the winner get 120 points. 5th place would get 32 points or 96 points on triple points nights. So finishing 5th you still only lose 24 points to the winner. 10th gets 22 points and on triple points night he gets 66 points and only loses 54 points. But don't show and you lose 120 to the winner of the feature alone. Plus heats pay 10-9-8-7-6-5 on points and triple that and the dash the same and triple and you could lose 180 points on triple points night! Then if it's bonus points night, the bonus may be from 100-500 points and if you miss you could really be behind! Just show up, however, and you get the bonus points!
To become a champion in any sport worth while requires a high degree of dedication! This years champions at Mottville certainly had it! A few years back we had a father and two sons racing with us and the father was most successful and most dedicated. It never rubbed of on his sons, however, and they missed races for parties, weddings, hog roast, you name it! Odds are the two sons will never be track champions anywhere because they are not willing to pay the price that is required!
I saw Paul Scott from Conner's Towing this week, he is planning on bringing a front end loader to the track to remove snow from the driveway, parking lot, pits and track on Friday January 5th so we can hold Mottville Madness V on January 6th! Now if we can just keep it from snowing on January 6th and get the temp at least in the 20's!!
I was reminded of how it really is the "World Wide Web" this week when I got an email from Ron Rodda, Marc Times Racing News Columnist, out of California! He hopes to visit Mottville next season and said he found my willingness to post my own column, refreshing!! Thanks for the kind remarks, they are most appreciated! Mottville Stock "Rookie Of The Year" Wesley Schaefer also send me a nice email on the last column, thanks Wes! Wes added that he just "goes with the flow"! Not a bad idea at all.
We have official Mottville Speedway sweat shirts, T-shirts, and hats. All are maroon color with gold lettering and all say "Mottville Speedway, There's No Place Quite Like It"! They are quality pieces and the lettering is top quality! We will have pics on these items on a page here soon. The hats are $10, T-shirts are $14, and the sweat shirts are $20. The sweat shirts are very warm, by the way!
Reminder, January 6th is the last day you can get tickets to the February 10, 2026 banquet for $20! After that date the tickets go to $25!
Until next time, Stay warm and stay dry and we will see you in 2001!!
*****HAPPY NEW YEAR*****
