RADICAL
RICH BOALS came to the Mottville Speedway for the first time in 2002 Saturday
night and won a close victory in the 25 lap Pro Stock feature which was run in
light rain! Boals took the lead on a restart after 21 laps and just nipped
season points leader Paul Scott and Joe Reaume for the win which was worth $150!
John Long was 4th followed by Jamie Kline and Ryan Prough. Scott won the dash
and Prough won the heat.
Bomber season points leader Randy Burns battled newcomer Randy Nichols for the
entire 25 lap feature before recording his 15th feature win of the season. The
Bomber feature was also run in the rain and on a very wet track! Burns picked up
$125 for his win! Nichols settled for a very close 2nd followed by Gary Denzel,
Eric Root, Jason Clevenger, Roger Binkley, Scott Rozner and Curtis Gray. Burns
won the dash and heat.
Jimm Jones looked great on the wet track and won his 5th Mini Stock feature of
the season with a 25 lap victory over Rodney Roberts, Eric Root, Jon
Fitzpatrick, Paul Mishler, Jamison Corn and Joe Fitzpatrick. Jones won the dash
and Roberts won the heat.
Danny Zimmerman had no trouble at all with the wet track as he won the 25 lap
Mini Thunder Car feature for his 3rd feature win of the season! Season points
leader Fred Garrett was 2nd followed by Derk Sargent, Jason Cline, Mike Kuhn and
Robert Parker. Garrett won the dash and Cline took the heat.
The kart feature was completed just before the rains came and Jacob Caines won
his 2nd feature of the season with an 8 lap victory over Mike Zehr who won the
heat. Caines took over the season points lead.
The rains came just as the MMSRA were warming up for the feature and they
elected not to run on the wet track. In the heat it was Rob Atkinson over Jerry
Benson, Tim Brundige and Freeman Hochstetler.
It was announced this week that Gene Atherton was named MMSRA "Rookie of
the Year!" Congrats to Gene for a great first season!
We actually had a very good car count and above average crowd despite the fact
it looked like rain all day! Had we had decent weather we might well have had
our season high car count! Still only one car refused to run in the stock car
class and one another car run but did not make much of an effort! That means 94%
of the drivers really tried which is great! Most had a lot of fun and were
laughing about it afterwards! Only Paul Scott suffered much damage to his car,
that occurring when he hit Jamie Kline during a caution! Gary Denzel did dent
his number 6 Bomber some when he hit Scott Rozner but as Gary said "Its
only sheet metal!" Nice attitude!
We were faced with either running in the rain or running double features Sunday
and it appeared most want to race tonight! It was the first time we had run all
the features in the rain since the Ray Beers Memorial in April which is pretty
good! With 14 dates left on the 2002 schedule I am sure we will run some more in
the rain before its over!
The MS was really outstanding-$100-75-60-50-40-30! Bomber pay-off went
$125-75-60-50-40-35-30! PS feature pay-off was $150-90-70-50-45! For the weather
and car count it was an extremely good pay-off!
We registered 6 new cars!
We had an incident come up this week regarding our bulletin board on this web
site that I was to talk about! Only one track in the area that I am aware of has
a message board besides us. They apparently let anything go which is their
business, of course. But we feel that negative messages and complaints have no
place on our web site as the purpose of the web site is to promote the Mottville
Speedway. At any track there are always those super negative people! I am
literally working every single day to build up the Mottville Speedway and I
really do not care to be associated with negative people! You can view the glass
as half empty or half full and I have always preferred to view it as half full!
Some people just can not stand that! I know one track in our area makes the
highest pay-off for the classes they run of any track around and I hear negative
comments about the owner constantly!
Twice a message was on our web site bulletin board this week which was really a
complaint and the person doing the complaining did not have their facts straight
at all! If they emailed me I would be happy to set them straight on the facts
but that would be too direct and too simple I guess! Instead they wanted to
spread false rumors! I respond to all emails whether complaints, compliments or
requests for information!
On a positive note the 3 new lights were up at the turn 4 end of the front
stretch and really made turn 4 bright! The 3 new lights between the flag stand
and turn one are up but not connected yet. Should be by next week-end for
certain and also we have two bulbs burned out on the front stretch which should
be replaced this week! Meanwhile the main rest rooms are completed and really
nice! We are ready for cold weather racing the rest rooms are heated!
We had the great pleasure of having Butler Motor Speedway owner Joe Doer with us
for the racing tonight! Really enjoyed having him with us and hope he comes back
soon!
Most of the negative messages I get say something like "no wonder you do
not have big crowds and car counts!" Well the reason we do not have big
crowds and car counts is because we run 83 nights per season, in any weather and
we open in early March and close in late November! Plus we do not run late
models or modifieds and thus no big crowds! When we ran late models our crowds
were 10 times what they are now but our bottom line was much worse! I am very
confident we can build up decent size classes for 2003 in MS, Bomber, and MTC
classes! As for Pro Stocks I really do not know! It is really not practical to
have a set pay-off when you may have 3 cars in a class one night and 7 the next!
But we need the PS class for those cars not legal for Bomber and next season the
Bomber rules are being tightened considerably! We can pay the PS class from
$125-$300 depending on car count in 2003 and we can pay them $50 to finish and
$25 if they do not finish the feature but whether that is good enough to get a
good car count I really do not know! Time will tell but I can say that Paul
Scott and Jeff Brunt have done very well financially at Mottville this season
and some drivers in PS will do well in 2003 at Mottville!
Supposed to cool off Sunday and we may turn the new rest room heaters on for the
first time this season! Only 14 nights left so enjoy the racing at Mottville
while you can!
